Daystar Fetes 5000 students with school materials
As students prepare to resume after a long vacation across Nigeria, Senior Pastor, Daystar Christian Centre, Lagos, Sam Adeyemi has urged government at all levels to invest quality resources into building Nigeria future.
The clergy gave this admonition today as the church gave out free educational materials ranging from books, school bags, sandals and other writing materials to the less privileged students in Lagos. According to him, the project tagged “Back To School” is a benevolence initiative of the church aimed at equipping less privileged students, Nigeria’s future leaders, with educational materials to help maximize their academic experience.
Pastor Adeyemi said the essence of a government is to make learning easy and smooth for students to assimilate. “How will a student cope in school when he or she does not even have a school bag or writing materials” Adeyemi queried.
In his words, head Daystar Benevolence unit, Akinwande Ademosu, said “this is an annual initiative for us. We do not just talk giving, we do it. We strongly believe investing in these students amounts to investing into Nigeria’s future. As these students resume in the coming week, we are sure they will have materials to settle down for academic excellence. We will do more as God empowers us”.
Most of the parents interviewed were grateful to God for the initiative by the church. Mrs Maryam Adebayo, who came with her two children was full of joy as she said ” I thank God for this church. If other churches and mosques can do like this, the society will be better. Though I don’t attend the church but every year we are here for this life saving materials for our children. They are given bags, biro, books and other school materials. May God bless the pastors, members and replenish their pockets. Our children are happy today” .
