The Holy Spirit and The Good news

The Holy Spirit and The Good news

Pastor Sam Adeyemi.

Matthew 9: 35 – 38

Jesus went through all the villages and synagogues proclaiming the good news.  One of the beautiful things about the Christianity is that it is good news. Our world needs the good news today than it ever did. The world is filled today with bad news.  With the advent of social media, bad news goes viral within minutes. But Jesus came with a message called the good news.

After the resurrection of Jesus, the disciples of Jesus were very eager to go all over the cities proclaiming to people what had happened. They were eager to tell the world the story of the resurrected Christ. They were happy to proclaim His resurrection from the dead. The price had been paid for sin eternally. Since He died, He died on behalf of every human being and we can be freed from the power of sin now.

In Luke 24: 45 – 49, the disciples were expectedly eager to move out and tell people that Jesus died and resurrected. He is truly the messiah. He opened their eyes so they might understand the scriptures and warned them not to leave the Jerusalem. They saw Him after the resurrection. They had a message to preach and something to say. The fact that you have something to say is not the proof that you have the power to say it. He urged them to stay in the city until they were clothed from on high with power.

Acts 1: 4 – 8, the critical factor to the power from on high was not just something but someone. It was the Holy Spirit. When Jesus began to preach the good news of the kingdom, we understand what happened at River Jordan, He was baptized by John the Baptist. At the baptism, the power of the Holy Spirit came on Jesus in form of a dove. In Luke 4: 18 – 19, even our Lord Jesus needed the anointing and empowerment of the Spirit to share the good news. If Jesus needed the Holy Spirit and the disciples needed the Holy Spirit, we need it more to be able to share the good news with people.

Why do we need the Holy Spirit? It has to do with the design of human being. The most difficult entity to change on earth is a human created in the image of God. Jobs 32: 8 Man is a spirit that has a soul and lives in a physical body. The very components of God are the components of man. There is something about man that is beyond logic. A human being is a miracle walking on two legs. A being designed to function in the spiritual and material worlds at the same time. When it gets to making a human being to be transformed and free from the nature of sin, you need more than a slogan. You need power. Such power comes on a believer after the Holy Spirit comes.

Acts 2: 1- 4 this was a fulfillment of the promise Christ gave them. The power to evangelize came upon them. After this experience, the whole city knew about it, Acts 2: 38 – 41. It is the Holy Spirit that has the capacity to change a human being. Every human being is under some influence. The Holy Spirit is the one that inspires us. After the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, our faculty begins to function at a higher level. The Lord of the harvest is the Holy Spirit. Matthew 9: 38 Argument and religion would not change people, it is the Holy Spirit. He is the distinct personality that bears responsibility for actively transforming human lives from the inside out.

11 Corinthians 3: 16 – 18 the bible is an inspired book. You need the inspiration of the Spirit of God for full understanding of the bible. For you to change a human being, it has to be from the inside. The person spiritual eye has to be opened. The person has to see him or herself in a new light. This is only made possible by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the one that empowers us for sharing the good news. One of the things Holy Spirit will do for you is to give you boldness, confidence and courage to share the good news. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, it takes you beyond the limit of human abilities.  Human conditions today do not need our theories but God. They don’t need our opinions; they need the good news. The Holy Spirit works with the good news, Mark 16: 20. We are only witnesses of the works and miracles of the Holy Spirit. Make a list of those whose lives you want changed. Pray for their salvation.
