The Covenant of Provision
Pastor Sam Adeyemi | Genesis 22: 15-18
During this current season, God wants us to locate our trust in Him for provision because during times of financial crises, God creates new millionaires and billionaires. However, we have to be on the same frequency with God. The Holy Spirit is emphasising the word “trust”. Worrying about material and financial provision is something we experience when going through lack but we must realise that worrying does not solve any problem; rather, worrying makes the situation worse. Worrying is not the principle for creating success or material wealth and increase. Actually, it repels material provision because in the process of worrying, you break the rules for wealth creation. Worrying creates new problems that usually require more money to solve. In most developed countries, the citizens are guaranteed of basic needs; how much more will the citizens of God’s kingdom be catered for? Jesus said we now belong to a system that guarantees our basic needs (Matthew 6:25-30). When we examine the issue a bit more, we see that worrying is not about what we have or don’t have, it is about trust. When we worry, we prove our lack of trust in God to take care of us. Material things do not douse worry since even rich people worry because they cannot guarantee the continuity of their wealth (1Timothy 6:17). Those who put their trust in God have stability over time; even when circumstances change because God never changes.
No one can put their trust in riches and God at the same time (Luke 16:13). Most people who desire to be wealthy do not realise the challenges that come with being wealthy. One of the dangers is that one’s trust begins to shift from God to the riches. Therefore, we are admonished to put our trust in God. He will see us through the difficult seasons. He is always there for us through the good times and the challenging times (Philippians 4:6). Someone said worry is interest you pay upfront on a debt you will never owe. Worry is a complete waste of time. Plants look beautiful yet they don’t worry about their existence and we are of more value to God than they are.
The basis of our trust in God is God’s integrity and the covenant that God has chosen to cut with us. God has never lied and He will never lie. When Balaam was hired to curse Israel, he said God is not a man that He should lie, nor the son of man that He should change His mind midway about a promise He has made (Numbers 23:19). Trust is earned; when someone lies to you, it breaks trust. So, prove God and see whether He will hold up to His promises or not. The guarantee for our future is an oath from God. He has sworn over us, as He swore over Abraham, to bless us (Hebrews 6:13-20). When you know this truth, you will lose the capacity for worrying. We are assured of God’s integrity and that integrity plays out in His covenant with us (Galatians 3:13-14). Worrying is not part of Abraham’s blessings. God’s word is an anchor for our soul during every season of our life (Hebrews 6:19). Consecrate your life to God today and put your trust in Him alone (Jeremiah 17:5-8).
