Delivering Hope to the Hopeless!
She has transformed a countless number of lives. Her charitable works have resuscitated many communities, completed abandoned government projects and public schools across Lagos state and she remains dedicated and determined to continue raising role models all around the globe. These are just some of the few ways to describe Nigeria’s fast-growing church – Daystar Christian Centre.
Joy and happiness replaced tears and sadness, for the numerous needy people who were partakers of the enormous giveaway on Sunday, 16 December, 2012 when Daystar held another edition of her life-saving Benevolence Day.
Staying true to one of her core values – showing love to everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, the church has, once again, done amazing wonders by giving out different items to hundreds of poor, disadvantaged and deprived people in the society. This could not have been possible without the generous donations from the church members.
There was evident relief and delight on the recipients’ faces as Daystar’s Benevolence Team showed love and gave life transforming gifts to the crowd of needy people who filled the church’s premises. It was obvious that this act of giving was going to go a long way in ensuring that Christmas would be a joyful time for the less-privileged in the society.
The hundreds of beneficiaries, including widows, the crippled, blind, old and young from across the state, all received first class treatment even though they were not members of the church. Food items of rice, beans, groundnut oil, noodles and cooking condiments along with items of clothing, Cheap UGG shoes and bags were given out in large quantities.
Each person had a different story to tell about their experience: “I’ve always heard about Daystar on television but a friend of mine informed me that food items would be given out today. I stay at Shagamu Road, Ikorodu and had to set out around 5am. Despite being blind, I work hard to sustain my family but still don’t have enough. A lot of us don’t have what to eat, not to talk of celebrating Christmas so this will go a long way in changing things for my family this Christmas season. If I didn’t live so far away and if I had money, I would be a member of Daystar. I don’t even know what to say. I’m just very grateful and I pray the good Lord will keep blessing Daystar as a whole” said Isaac Olorundare, one of the beneficiaries, who was overwhelmed with excitement and relief.
According to another beneficiary, who identified herself as Mrs. Mary David, “Although I never attend this church before, na one man come tell us for market yesterday. I’m a trader but there’s no money to continue. I really thank God for this and I pray God continues to bless this church and also give me power to give these kind of things to people next time.”
Daystar’s Benevolence Programme was also organised in accordance with scriptural principles as emphasized in Psalm 82:4 “Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the band of the wicked”. It is crucial to assist the poor because when we do, we receive the kind of joy money can’t buy.
The church leadership has consistently maintained that the essence of a church is the impact it makes in the society. Daystar has greatly impacted the society in her seventeen years of existence.
